My Grandfather was his chief engineering officer in the 56th fighter group and from NY. He definitely did a ton to get those guys the best planes in the sky imo in WW2. The P-47D++ then 56th molded you can look this up every other fighter group switched to Mustangs. The P-47 when it finally got its drop tanks it could fly higher faster and farther than the P-51. She had twice as many machine guns and more than double the ammo for all 8.
