Ross Perot Jr. (left) and co-pilot Jay Coburn talk to reporters beside their helicopter, “The Spirit of Texas,” in which they flew the first ever around the world helicopter trip. The helicopter is en route to Washington, DC where the copter will take its place in the Smithsonian Institution’s Air and Space Museum. Perot and Coburn set out September 1, 1982 from Dallas, Texas, in the Bell 206 Long Ranger on a 28,000 mile, 30 day voyage around the world, landing in 26 countries and a refueling stop on the deck of a container ship in the middle of the Pacific.
