Any idea why it was not on all airliners prior to the actual modern GPWS? Ironically, it was a crash of a TWA airliner, Flight 514, flying into Washington Dulles Airport back in 1974 that mandated putting a GPWS in all airliners. That flight struck some low mountains west of the airport. This radar system would have saved them. Anyone know why this simple system Hughes invented wasn’t used by all airliners since the Connie days?

No. TCAS is Traffic Collision Avoidance System. It’s designed to prevent mid-air collisions. This would be more like an early version of GPWS – Ground Proximity Warning System.
