The giant C-5A Galaxy from Lockheed flies above California. The aircraft underwent testing at Edwards Air Force Base, Calif., from 1969 to 1973. It impressively demonstrated its heavy-lifting capability when one of the test aircraft took off with a gross weight of 798,200 pounds — nearly 30,000 pounds more than its maximum design weight.
