Returned to the states in October 71 only to return to Okinawa in November 72 in support of this effort. The only other place I have so many KC 135’s in one place has been the boneyard.

Until about 3 years ago, very few people at FedEx knew that Oz was a “War Hero”. A tribute was arranged that many of us vets will not forget. Oz is one of the nicest, most humble guys I’ve ever known, and it’s been an honor to work with him and call him my friend.

Nam Phong was classified at the time.

We got 154040 back to base and we dropped off the B52 crew at medical. I then ferried 2 squads of Marines to secure the crash site, then for the next two days went back & forth ferrying supply’s, AF personal, retrieving guns, radios, equipment from burned out hulk. Never trust a phrog under 50 years old. God bless them.

I was TDY at Andersen AFB when this all happened. Had us all on the edge wondering about Oliver-2. I seen all of them when they lifted off. I myself, was from Dyess AFB. I worked Supply Point in Motor Pool 43rd Transportation Sq. Lived my six months in Tent City. First along the flight line fence, then to Tent City. Went through some of the worst weather, and noise!!

When they were shot down, I was back on alert as a crew dog RN. There was great rrelief at Dyess when we learned all were safe.

Such a humble great man. Never knew this story. He just says he was shot down. My wife is the Stephen’s.
