The best story I have ever read about air combat involved Gabby on his first or second mission over France and he’s already taken some rounds and a German in a FW-190 who proceeded to make I think 5 passes absolutely peppering the aircraft from all directions. Miraculously out of ammo the German wagged his wings realizing they were going to need a bigger gun. That plane had hundreds of holes in it from every caliber it had. She took you home with the one she went with.
