Spending a morning with the Sunday edition of Los Angeles Times used to be an enjoyable experience.

Today, for example, was the cost of the LA Times on March 1, 1964.

432 pages for 25 cents.

“. . . two balls of fire racing for the stars.” Very well said, Carl. Thank you.

Being an aircraft engine mech on other aircraft I wanted to see the engines of the SR71.
Every time I noticed the bird was ready to fly I stopped what I was doing and waited for the splendid view of an SR71 getting prepared to go to the clouds.
Every take-off was awesome. Nighttime take-offs were spectacular. Just to be able to watch the afterburners while the aircraft climbed upward so quickly was amazing. All one could see was two balls of fire racing for the stars.
I will never forget those moments.
