I’ve ALWAYS hated this particular death, Dick Bong, a hero of my Dad when the old man flew B-24s in the South Pacific.
The close of the war, the best pilot of a notoriously difficult fighter, and then the constant specter of aviation, mechanical failure and too little time.
Just sad….
